February 10, 2023 – Las Vegas is well-known for its extravagance, and the soon-to-be-completed MSG Sphere is no exception. Built by Madison Square Garden (MSG) Entertainment in partnership with The Venetian, the MSG Sphere is promising to bring a new level of entertainment to Las Vegas.
What is the MSG Sphere?
The MSG Sphere at The Venetian is designed to be a new kind of music, and entertainment venue, the likes of which has never been seen before. The 20,000-seat spherical amphitheater is planning to host concerts, musical residencies, and film projects in its state-of-the-art facility.
The exterior of the dome itself is covered in LCD screens that will light up the sphere on the outside at night, with over 500,000 square feet of lighted surface area, adding incredible visuals to the Las Vegas skyline.
Inside, the MSG Sphere will feature a groundbreaking 3D audio system known as Sphere Immersive Sound. The sound system consists of 164,000 speakers that use wave field technology to provide crystal clear and spatially uniform audio to every seat in the theater.
MSG Opening Date News
The MSG Sphere is set to open by the end of 2023 (possibly September), with the exact date still to be announced.
Originally planned to open in 2021, the project was delayed due to supply chain issues and several design changes. Initially slated to cost $1.6 billion, it’s now projected that the completed project will cost upwards of $2.17 billion, making it the most expensive entertainment space in Las Vegas to date.
Live Entertainment
Featuring a spherically shaped theatre, the MSG Sphere will allow audiences to watch films and concerts in a totally unique way. Using unique projection and sound technology, the venue will provide an experience unlike any other.

Update (February 12, 2023): It was announced during the Super Bowl that the first act to perform at the MSG Sphere will be the Irish rock band U2. The exact dates have not been announced as of yet, but the U2 residency at the Sphere is expected to happen during the fall of 2023.
Apparently, the show has been in the works for some time, and ticket demand will be high. Not only will this be the public’s first opportunity to experience the MSG Sphere, but it will also be the first time U2 has performed live since 2019. The performance will feature music from the album ACHTUNG BABY.
While no first acts or performers have been confirmed at this point, it has been rumored that the Irish rock band U2 will be the MSG Sphere’s opening act. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen. MSG Entertainment has confirmed, however, that an unnamed Hollywood director is working on an original film-based attraction made specifically for the circular entertainment venue.

Vegas Sports
In addition to concerts and other music-related events, the Sphere may vary well become Las Vegas’s newest sports venue. The space is perfectly suited to some of the popular sporting events that regularly take place in Vegas, such as boxing, wrestling, martial arts, and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events.
There’s also the vision that the Sphere can be home to esports and other digital gaming events. If this comes to pass, it will make the MSG Sphere the largest esports venue in the world.

The MSG Sphere is located a block and a half off the Strip east of The Venetian resort on an 18-acre parcel of property that was owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.
